Many women have not been given an opportunity for a formal education, consequently they are unable to read and write. Literacy classes provide an opportunity to break the cycle of illiteracy while fostering confidence and self-esteem. Classes are offered during the dry months when women are not working in the fields. Thank you for your donation.
Can
you imagine life without the ability to read? These women can! Things
for them are beginning to change though.Literacy classes are being
taught to 90 women in 3 different locations.
Last year was the
time women were provided this opportunity .These women have had little
or no formal education. Classes met twice a week. We are hoping to
resume classes soon.
In two locations classes were conducted in
the local church. The third location does not yet have a church
building, so classes were held under a tree.A chalkboard was purchased
to aid instruction there. The instructor has been trained to teach the
women in the local dialect, Cerma. The women are eager to learn and
proud to have their own school supplies. With no textbooks available to
them ,bible passages are used as a guide. We witnessed them learning "W"
sounds with a passage from scripture containing multiple words with "W".
Their
hope is to be able to read the bible some day. We would love to provide
textbooks to augment their learning this year. With your help this can
become a reality.
What they lack in material resources these women make up for in their desire and enthusiasm to learn.
